A & A Cleaning Services Receives Blue Ribbon Small Business Award From U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

PRESS RELEASE

A & A Cleaning Services Receives Blue Ribbon Small Business Award From U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

PEARLAND, TX, May 21, 2010:  On Tuesday, May 18, 2010, A & A Cleaning Services owner, Mona Chavarria traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which honored A & A Cleaning Services’ critical role in creating jobs and growing the economy.

A & A Cleaning Services was one of only 75 small businesses nationwide to receive the Blue Ribbon Award.  Chosen from several hundred applicants nationwide, the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award is given to recognize businesses that demonstrate excellent business practices in several areas, including business strategy, employee development, community involvement, and customer service.

“This year’s recipients of the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award are proof that the American entrepreneurial spirit is as strong as ever,” said Thomas J. Donohue, U.S. Chamber president and CEO.  “We’re relying on small businesses to lead us out of this recession, create new jobs, and get our economy moving again, and these companies are leading the way.”

“I was so honored to receive the Blue Ribbon Award,” said Mona Chavarria, who started A & A Cleaning Services in 2000.   “To be chosen out of so many businesses across the nation is humbling.  I would like to thank my family, friends, employees and customers.  Without their continued support over the years, this achievement would not have been possible.”

Located in Pearland, A & A Cleaning Services provides cleaning services to the surrounding Bay Area communities and Houston.  A & A offers a wide range of cleaning services that includes residential cleaning, commercial cleaning, janitorial services and supplies, and professional lawn care.

A delegation from the Pearland Chamber of Commerce traveled to the Small Business Summit in Washington, D.C. with Mona Chavarria to show their support of A & A Cleaning Services.  In addition to the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, A & A Cleaning Services is also a member of the Alvin Manvel Chamber of Commerce.

The Bridge of Trouble Waters Award Luncheon

The Bridge of Troubled Waters

Annual Women of Distinction Award Luncheon

Each year, more than 30,000 incidents of family violence are reported in Harris County .  The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. (The Bridge) strives to be an agent of change, reaching 20,000 people each year through education, outreach and direct services to women and children in need.  However, we can’t do it alone – we need the support and assistance of the community to make our community a better place to live and raise children.  Each year, The Bridge honors women who have done just that through the  Annual Women of Distinction Award Luncheon.  This year’s luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27th at The Houston Hobby Marriott Hotel.

This luncheon this year will also feature a Silent Auction.  Please consider supporting the Silent Auction by including The Bridge in your charitable donations budget and help make our luncheon even more successful! The Bridge Emergency Shelter houses and provides services for up to 75 women and children every day, and proceeds from the Silent Auction will be used to help provide those services. Less than 12% of The Bridge’s total budget goes to general and administrative expenses; the majority of your donated dollars go directly to helping individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence; individuals seeking to rebuild their families and their lives. There is no greater joy than to witness the healing and transformation of a family once torn apart by violence and/or sexual assault.

I hope you will be inspired to help.  Your donation to our Silent Auction will enhance our ability to provide much needed funds to help families in our community.  I invite you to visit our website: www.tbotw.org to learn more about the programs and services provided by The Bridge. For more information please feel free to contact Carla Norman at 832-496-9530 (cell) or 832-230-0412 (home).

2010 Boy Scouts of America Learning For Life Support Dinner

Please save the date for Thursday, June 3rd at 7 p.m. for the

2010 Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life (LFL) support dinner.

For over 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has provided its participants with opportunities and resources to gain life skills that help foster positive personal development and a dedication to community and environmental stewardship. Through its Learning for Life program, the Bay Area Council of Boy Scouts of America (BACBSA) is now making many of those opportunities and resources available to every kindergarten through 12th grade student in Galveston and Brazoria Counties.

“We’re one of the few councils in the United States that provides this opportunity to children at the full extent possible that encompasses the classroom, outdoor elements and community service,” said Lisa Stegman, BACBSA coastal district executive. “People are realizing this is something we can affect a lot of kids with.” The goals of Learning for Life are to “encourage a desire for lifelong learning, foster the acquisition and application of personal/social skills, prepare tomorrow’s workforce through exposure of career management skills and develop engaged citizens.”

In order to expand Learning for Life in more schools in Galveston and Brazoria Counties, BACBSA hosts fundraising support dinners and encourages sponsorships from individuals, companies and organizations. “The purpose is to try to build partnerships so it can grow to include all the children in the area,” BACBSA Learning for Life Council Chairman Latonia Wilson stated.

The next support dinner will be held at the Alvin Community College Nolan Ryan Center on June 3 at 7 p.m. “Having been affiliated with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Scouts, I support the Learning for Life program which works with area youth on positive life goals,” ACC President Dr. Rodney Allbright said. “In addition, Learning for Life programs follow the health and safety policies of the Boy Scouts of America.”

The event will be held at the Alvin Community College Nolan Ryan Center. It supports the LFL character education program for all Galveston County and Brazoria County school districts.

For more information about donating to the Learning for Life program and/or participating in the support dinner on June 3, call BACBSA at (409) 744-5206.
